Well you would reduce the costs of the things you mention, but with 2 schools, you're still going to have to have most of the same number of staff as you would 3. You're not going to buy every book brand new, so if you can't make 3 decent libraries out of 6 schools worth, its not going to be much different. Gym equipment, same. Cars, 6 schools, you would hope that a few of them would be functionable. Etc etc.
You may be right on the red/blue, but I'm not thinking oh hell and then finding something to complain about later. Biggest complaint I had with Dickenson was the 1 school idea. You have 2000 kids in Wise County, 2 schools are a 1000. You feed right into the ones who are so against it by saying big schools, long trips, etc etc. 3 schools, you're looking around 700 a school, not big schools, trips wouldn't be as long, and you're closer to having the community feel and you do have room for growth. Hey, who knows maybe Volvo will decide to build a plant somewhere nearby and tons of people will move here for the better paying jobs. Giving yourself a bit of room for expansion is smart. It keeps you from having to go the portable classroom route if something good happens. You're trying to say if you can wear a size 38 pants holding in your breath, buy the 38s because you 'could' make it work, while a smart person will go a 40 and wear a belt and be prepared for the holiday season.
What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.
I would try to keep the class sizes at or under 900 (Studys that I have posted before and do not have the time to dig up again show that school sizes between 600-900 are optemem for education.
Sure 2 schools would save more money and if that is all anyone is looking at i am sure it may happen
IMHO the 2 school Idea will get kicked around a bit by some (1. Appy, 2. The rest of the county [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] sorry i could not help myself)
The numbers from VSHLhelper are solid and look like what I had seen from other sites ($25 to $30 Million per school)
I truly hope that the Idea of consoladation into 3 NEW schools gets looked at and not swept under the rug
